NJUPESKÄR

One of Sweden’s highest waterfalls, located in Fulufjället National Park. A short and accessible walk takes you through the forest to the falls, offering a quiet and impressive place to visit in all seasons.

MUSHROOMS + WILD BERRIES

From late summer into early autumn, the forests around Pinewood Cabins are rich in wild berries and mushrooms. Blueberries, lingonberries and cloudberries can be found throughout the area, while the forests offer a variety of edible mushrooms as the season progresses.

It’s a simple and quiet way to spend time outdoors, right from your doorstep or further into the surrounding nature.

NIPFJÄLLET

Nipfjället is a well-known mountain area near Idre, with open landscapes and wide views in every direction. The terrain is easy to access, making it suitable for both shorter walks and longer hikes.

In summer and early autumn, it’s a quiet place to explore, with trails leading across the mountain and towards the Norwegian border in the distance.

SPOTTING WILDLIFE

Not far from here, the landscape begins to open.

Grövelsjön is easy to reach, but feels far away.

The area around Idre offers good opportunities for birdwatching throughout the seasons, both at Pinewood Cabins and in the surrounding area. Forests, wetlands and mountain landscapes attract a wide variety of species, from smaller woodland birds to larger birds of prey.

In the mountain areas, species such as black grouse and ptarmigan can be found, while the forests are home to birds like capercaillie, owls and woodpeckers. With a bit of patience, it’s not uncommon to spot ospreys, white-tailed eagles or other birds of prey above the landscape.

RØROS

Røros is a historic mining town located just across the Norwegian border, known for its well-preserved wooden houses and distinctive atmosphere. The town is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and offers a mix of small shops, cafés and local history.

TROLLVÄGEN

Trollvägen is known for its unusual optical illusion, where the road appears to slope uphill while objects seem to roll in the opposite direction. It’s a simple but surprising stop, and a fun place to experience something a little different.

Located just outside Idre, it’s easy to combine with other stops in the area.

MIDSOMMER

Midsummer is one of the most important traditions in Sweden, celebrated around the longest day of the year in June. It marks the start of summer, with long, light evenings and time spent outdoors.

In the surrounding area, small local celebrations take place with music, dancing and traditional elements. It’s a simple and atmospheric way to experience Swedish culture.

SÁMI

Idre is located in the southern part of Sápmi, the traditional homeland of the Sámi people, which stretches across parts of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia.

A section of the Southern Kungsleden passes close to Drevdagen, just a short distance from Pinewood Cabins.

Here, the trail winds through the landscapes of the Drevfjällen Nature Reserve, with open mountain plateaus, forest paths and wide views stretching towards the Norwegian mountains.
